Why I moved away from the city...

If you have been following my blog over the last 4 or 5 months you will probably already know about my family and I moving away from the Toronto, Ontario area out to the country. Actually about 2 and a half hours north east of the Toronto area.

Many people have asked us why we would want to move so far away from in all.... All being things like, traffic, high cost of living, traffic, no place to put snow in the winter time, winter traffic, crowds, "on the way to work" traffic, over-crowded stores during peak shopping times, "on the way home" traffic, (ok, I hate traffic!) and of course, NOISE. Well I know I am not much of a writer, so I am going to let some pictures speak a thousand words for me. Please note. If you are a bushcrafter and love the outdoors during all seasons you will understand why these pictures spoke to me so strongly.

If you are not the type of person that likes winter in any of its forms, you would probably be saying something like "Yeah but look at all that snow! Think of all the shoveling you would have to do!"

Oh. I think I have that covered!

It's a bushcraft shovel! No! Really! See the camouflage?

Thanks, Decado.

  1. I LOVE the blade on the ATV... looks awesome. THAT'S how we do things in the country!

Lets go geocaching/equicaching - there are a couple right by our farm so we can take the horses... I even have a GPS holder for my saddle!!

  2. Great photos!

So... those don't... look... like... wool pants, young man.

So with all that snow, are you planning to get a Grand Shelters Icebox Igloo tool?

I'm dreaming of building a lean-to in your forest there, with a nice long fire, cooking dinner over the embers.

Mungo - No to the Igloo tool... just a snow saw like the eskimos do it. I should be sitting at that fire by friday.

Sam - Sorry Sam. Really. Please come back. I won't show any more pictures.... I promise.

  11. That looks fabulous.
Somehow I got a bit of home-sickness feelings looking at the house and the surroundings.
It's the style of the house and the red colour that does it I guess.

  12. I'm jealous as hell. For you for having real weather. (We in The Netherlands have to be content with a 8 month autumn, a 3 month spring and maybe a 1 month summer. But also for being able to live so free and easy. I wish, I wish, I wish.
    Cheers,
